A businesswoman in a black suit steps off the edge of a tenth-floor roof. Aimi, who saw it happen, goes to the parapet braced for the worst and finds the woman walking calmly along the street below. That is where the story starts, and Masaru refuses to believe a word of it. Ten storeys, thirty metres, a spine you never walk on again — he has the numbers ready before she can finish.
Almost all of it is the two of them talking. No narrator steps in to explain the science; it arrives through one friend wearing the other down, and the sceptic asks exactly the questions a reader would. Speech bubbles are not a layer added on top of this story. They are the shape it already had.
